We present measurements of Ar-broadening parameters for the R(0) and R(7) lines in the fundamental band of13CO at eight temperatures from 80 to 297 K. The broadening parameters are determined by simultaneous least-squares fitting of spectra recorded using a frequency stabilized diode laser spectrometer. The comparison of the broadening parameter values for R(7) derived at room temperature and different pressures from different line profiles shows that an empirical line profile, which takes into account narrowing effects (Dicke narrowing and absorber speed dependence) but neglects any correlation between collisions, is able to describe the observed lines with constant values of the narrowing…

We report the Soret absorption spectra (500-350 nm) of the cyanomet derivatives of human hemoglobin and horse myoglobin, in the temperature range 300-20 K and in two different solvents (65% v/v glycerol-water or 65% v/v ethylene glycol-water). AbstractExperimental Stark broadening studies of the infrared CI transition 3s 1 P 1o − 3p 1 S 0 at 833.5 nm are reported for the first time. A high-current wall-stabilized arc, operated in a mixture of helium, argon, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, was applied as the plasma source. Radiation emitted from homogeneous and optically thin plasma layers was analyzed. Stark broadening studies of the selected CI transition and the hydrogen Balmer β line were performed. As expected from theoretical considerations, the CI line width depends linearly on the electron density of the plasma. Vibrational Signature of Water Molecules in Asymmetric Hydrogen Bonding Environments

The O–H stretching vibrational modes of water molecules are sensitive to their local environments. Here, we applied effective normal-mode analysis to isolate contributions of each of the two hydrogen atoms to the vibrational modes ν1 and ν3 of water molecules in the liquid phase. We demonstrate that the decoupling of the two contributions fd and the frequency splitting of the vibrational modes Δω13 are inextricably related to the symmetry of the hydrogen bonding environment. Experimental and theoretical Stark broadening studies of the Paschen beta line of hydrogen (lambda=1.28 microm) are reported. Line shape measurements were performed at electron densities of the plasma between 3.5 x 10(15) cm(-3) and 7.5 x 10(15) cm(-3), applying as the light source a wall-stabilized arc operated at atmospheric pressure in a helium-hydrogen gas mixture. The radiation of the plasma, emitted from nearly homogeneous plasma layers in the end-on direction, was registered with the use of a grating spectrometer equipped with a charge coupled device detector. Photoluminescence spectral dispersion as a probe of structural inhomogeneity in silica

We perform time-resolved photoluminescence measurements on point defects in amorphous silicon dioxide (silica). In particular, we report data on the decay kinetics of the emission signals of extrinsic oxygen deficient centres of the second type from singlet and directly excited triplet states, and we use them as a probe of structural inhomogeneity. Luminescence activity in sapphire (alpha-Al(2)O(3)) is studied as well and used as a model system to compare the optical properties of defects in silica with those of defects embedded in a crystalline matrix. Features of level broadening in a ring-stub system

When a one dimensional (1D) ring-stub system is coupled to an electron reservoir, the states acquire a width (or broadening characterized by poles in the complex energy plane) due to finite life time effects. We show that this broadening is limited by anti-resonances due to the stub. The differences in level broadening in presence and absence of anti-resonance is exemplified by comparison to a 1D ring coupled to an infinite reservoir. We also show that the anti-resonances due to the stub has an anchoring effect on the poles when a magnetic flux through the ring is varied. The thermal behavior of the Soret band relative to the carbonmonoxy derivatives of some beta-chain mutant hemoglobins is studied in the temperature range 300-10 K and compared to that of wild-type carbonmonoxy hemoglobin.
